2008 Demo Bands Fund - Supported by the Scottish Arts Council

During 2008 we were privileged to be involved in a unique project. Funded by the Scottish Arts Council’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI), 24 of  Scotland’s most promising young bands were given the chance to work with professional recording studios to take their music careers to the next stage,

The YMI’s Demo fund provided funding to five professional recording studios including Chem19. We worked with 5 local bands whose ages ranged form 16 to 25.

Black Rat Death Squad: The demo recordings got them better support slots, plays on XFM and Radio Phoenix FM (London) radio stations. On the strength of the demo they will tour Holland and Denmark in May 09

The Strand: The demo tracks were self-released as an EP on 31 January. They sent out 200 CDs and as a result got more support work. On the strength of the demo they have secured a gig at SXSW 2009 in Austin, Texas.

Copy Haho: Recordings gave better impression of the band capabilities and also helped them get funding for EP release.

Groaner: A 2-piece quasi-experimental band with a sensational live act. During the recording process they learned a lot about how their approach worked. Recordings held back for a later date.

Abstract Donkeys: A young band, all still at school. Copies of the demo have been used to get them bookings.
