Jim Neilson
Jim contacted us a few years ago to hire out our studios for a couple of days to record an artist he was working with at the time. He has since become a regular engineer with us and as well as proving unrivalled behind the desk in the role of engineer, we're also more than impressed at his abilities with the soldering iron.
Recent projects at Chem19 include:
Gillebride Maclllemhaoil, Archie MacLullich, The Hussys and Ensemble Thing. He has also recently been involved in projects with Glasvegas and Johnny McElhone (Texas).
Jim also lectures in audio engineering.
Mastering Engineers
We are often asked if we provide a mastering service. We do not, as it is a very specialist job and requires a completely different setup to that of our studio, but we can recommend some excellent mastering engineers who are local to Glasgow:
Kenny MacLeod
Kenny MacLeod is known in the Glasgow music scene for many reasons including playing bass with Glasgow's legendary Eska, working as resident sound engineer at the CCA and specialising in live sound for The Vaselines, The Pastels and Camera Obscura. As well as all this he still seems to find time to master many great albums coming out of Chem19 and Chemikal Underground as well as a host of local artists.
For contact information on either Kenny or Iain please just get in touch.
Jamie Savage
Jamie has worked as a house engineer with Chem19 since its rebuild in 2006 and has an impressive number of recordings to his name. Artists he has worked with include:
The Phantom Band, Brakes, Lord Cut Glass, The Trade, Found, Zoey Van Goey, and James Yorkston.
As well as a recording engineer, Jamie is a well known session guitarist with many Glasgow artists including Zoey Van Goey, Emma Pollock and Olympic Swimmers.
Davey McAulay
Davey has recently completed projects with artists including Remember Remember, Mike Heron and Trembling Bells, Burntisland, Beecake and Moth and The Mirror. He has also worked with:
Mogwai, Zoey Van Goey, Be A Familiar, Come On Gang, Laura Healy, Strike The Colours, 17th Century, Summerlad, Delta Mainline, Jenna Reid & The Shetland Bus, Paul McLinden (Gyres) and Hip Parade.
Davey also lectures in audio engineering.
Iain Cook
Iain has been known to both Chem19 and Chemikal Underground for years now as Aereogramme and Unwinding Hours' guitarist / programmer / composer / producer and general musical whizz-kid. His talents don't even stop there as he also works as an excellent mastering engineer for many local artists and would be happy to hear from you if you need assistance in that department.
